LOCATION OF POSITION

Positions are located throughout the State of Maryland. Therefore, the resulting eligible list will be used to fill current and future vacancies. When completing application, please select all locations in which you are willing to work.

POSITION DUTIES

The main purpose of this position is making Maryland safer through proactive community supervision of offenders utilizing a strategy that focuses on criminogenic needs. This includes investigating and reporting, testing and referring offenders under supervision, identifying and partnering with community resources, informing and supporting victims of crime and collecting ordered monies.

Parole and Probation Agents supervise offenders on probation, parole and mandatory and conditionally release to the community by order of the courts or the Maryland Parole Commission. Agents must make routine contact with offenders, both in the office and in the community, to determine whether offenders are complying with the conditions of release. Agents must utilize casework techniques to develop detailed case planning and risk assessment of offenders, as well as maintain accurate and complete records of offender's behavior and adjustment to supervision. Agents are also responsible for the preparation of written reports to the courts and the Maryland Parole Commission to advise of changes to an offender's status, of the need for a modification of the conditions of supervision, and an offender's failure to comply with conditions of supervision. In addition, Agents represent the Division and present testimony at violation proceedings before the courts and the Maryland Parole Commission.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

Education: A Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university with 30 credits in the social, behavioral or correctional sciences.

Experience: None.

Notes:

1. Candidates may substitute one year of specialized experience counseling, investigating or supervising persons on parole or probation for the 30 semester credit hours in the social, behavioral or correctional sciences.

2.Candidates may substitute graduate level education at an accredited college or university in the social, behavioral or correctional sciences for one year of the required experience at a rate of 30 credits for one year of experience.

DESIRED OR PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

A degree in Criminal Justice, Psychology, Sociology orSocial Work.

Experience with Windows Applications such as Microsoft Word,Excel, Remote technologies such as Zoom, Google Suite, and Microsoft Teams.

Must be willing to interact directly with offenders in bothoffice settings and in the community.

LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS AND CERTIFICATIONS

Employees in these classifications may be assigned duties that require the operation of a motor vehicle. Employees assigned such duties will be required to possess a motor vehicle operator’s license valid in the State of Maryland.

SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS

1. Employees in this classification are subject to call-in 24 hours a day and, therefore, will be required to provide a telephone number at which they can be reached.

2. Candidates must meet all selection standards as set forth in the Code of Maryland Regulations by the Maryland Correctional Training Commission. Candidates who receive a probationary appointment must satisfactorily complete a prescribed training program prior to permanent appointment. Selection standards of the Correctional Training Commission may be obtained from the Maryland Department of Public Safety and Correctional Services, Suite 309, 6776 Reisterstown Road, Baltimore Maryland 21215.
