@jesada ,linda b. If still under warranty, have repaired/replaced/refund under warranty. Did a search for a service/repair manual with no luck. All I can suggest is to disassemble the vacuum to access motor connections and carefully test there with DVOM for power when switch on. If power is present at the motor and motor not running, would signify motor faulty. If no power present at motor you will have to trace back through wire harness in search of bad/damagedwire/plug/relay/fuse/switch. Links below may help, the 1st link is a exploded parts view of your vacuum and 2nd link is owners manual. Good luck. I hope this helped you out, if so let me know by pressing the helpful button.

Hi,

A safer way to do it it to use an Ohmmeter. (an Ohmmeter is a meter, which measures resistance it is a function provided in a DMM (Digital Multimeter. You can get an adequate one from most larger hardware stores for about $10).

Place the meter's two test leads. across the vacuum cleaner's power cord plug's two pins (with it disconnected from the wall outlet of course) and turn on the vacuum ON switch. There should be a reading on the meter. If not, disassemble the cleaner where the cord enters it and the test both wires from the plug to where they are connected using the Ohmmeter. If faulty replace the cord or the plug. If OK trace the wires using the Ohmmeter through the cleaner as per answer above until you find the problem.

Where did you find the power switch? I’ve had mine completely apart and cannot find it. I got the power switch but not the fuse.

My Hoover F5915-905 Spin Scrub 50 carpet conked out without so much as a whimper. Got the multi-meter out and confirmed it wasn’t the switch or motor winding. The problem turned out to be a 128C thermal fuse mounted on the motor behind a black plastic sleeve. Fixed it for $2.50.

How did you replace the 128C therm fuse? Where is it located?

Mar 9, 2020 by Sterling

The photo above shows the fuse next to my thumb on the motor. You need to do a lot of disassembly to get to the motor. Take care to mark where each screw was removed because they are all different lengths and sizes. Follow the motor windings to the fuse which is wrapped in a black rubber cover. I cut the old fuse with wire cutters then crimped the new fuse using the connector provided with the new fuse.

I uploaded a picture of the fuse that I purchased. This is a common item at any electronics store or online.

Took mine into a local vacuum repair/parts store. $15 to check it out. Definitely better than mucking around with it for hours myself, likely ordering parts that don’t fix it, and THEN taking it in to be checked out.

I think its more trouble than its worth!

I am SOOO sick of cheap ass appliances. I am in my 60s, from an era when things lasted forever, almost. Because obviously I now own a cheap ass Hoover!!

I am 80 yrs and can’t agree you more these machines are junk made in China. Mine was 3 months old when it quit.

Mar 9, 2023 by Mike Drake

Total junk! My Hoover had been used one time, then my husband died and I am just now trying to use it again for the first time, 14 months later. Of course the warranty is gone. It came on, then died and will not come on again. I will never, EVER buy another Hoover product again. I am 75 yrs old and refuse to pay through the nose for inferior products.

A common problem with many appliances that will shut it down are the push on spade lugs that are used. They loosen up and create a bad connection that heats up and burns causing it to totally disconnect. Generally at the power switch. This requires replacement of the switch, spade lugs and maybe some wire. If you are lucky, just the spade lug.

I bought my Hoover Powerdash Pet less than a year ago. I only used it ONE time and it worked pretty good. I tried to clean my carpet the other day (only the second time ever used). I have a small carpeted area in my home. Half way thru cleaning my carpet, it started making a horrible noise and started smoking and then just quit. It will not turn on and I'm now stuck with a half clean/half dirty carpet!!!
